Christian Lopez Swafford (b.1981) Born in Washington DC, attended Parsons The New School for Design in New York, earning his BA in 2008. There he explored the role of art and design in the advocacy of social issues. Raised in Washington DC, he traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico with his mother, a Mexican painter. There he was immersed in the rich artistic legacy of Mexican culture. His father, an American software engineer, pioneered the business applications of systems information storage during the early years of personal computers. Swafford's current work reconciles the lyricism of European and Amerindian traditional cultures with the pragmatism of the Information Age. He uses materials and function to engage attention to social polemics.
